A good white tee is the most reused piece in many wardrobes, and a bad one is see-through, shapeless or shrinks after one wash. These are the details worth checking before you buy.
Fabric weight and opacity
Thin cotton can be see-through. Look for a medium weight fabric, and read customer photos for how the colour looks in daylight. A tighter weave usually holds its shape better.
Neckline and length
A crew neck is classic and sits well under layers. A slightly longer hem is easier to tuck in or wear loose. Think about how you will wear it most often and pick the cut for that.
What to compare
- Fibre content on the product page, such as cotton or a cotton blend.
- Whether the fit is described as fitted, regular or relaxed.
- Care label: check wash temperature and whether it can go in the dryer.
- Customer comments on shrinkage after washing.
- The size chart, measured against a tee you already like.
Keeping it white
Wash whites separately and follow the care label. Treat marks early. Replace a tee when it yellows or thins rather than wearing it out of habit.
